For their resort 2022 collection, Mark Badgley and James Mischka turned to two classic 1942 films and their leading ladies - Bette Davis as Charlotte Vale in Now Voyager and Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa Lund in Casablanca – for their sources of inspiration.
“We were going over some of our favorites during the pandemic and just rewatching these older movies,” James Mischka explains. “In Casablanca, you have those suits with strong shoulders and flowing pants, everything that Bergman wore was incredible, and even her personality; being the most dangerous woman in the most dangerous city in the world was powerful, he continued. Mark Badgley adds, “Then you have Davis when she transforms into a beautiful social butterfly. There’s so much glamour and romance in those films, it’s what inspired the collection.”
